7 Criteria for Choosing an Electrical Panel
The electrical panel is the heart of your facility; choosing the wrong one can have serious consequences, from power outages to fire risks. When selecting the right panel, be sure to consider these 7 criteria.
1. Type Test Certificate (IEC 61439)
The panel's short-circuit withstand capability, temperature rise, and protection class values must be verified in accredited laboratories. Type-tested systems eliminate the risk of surprises in the field.
2. Direct Current and Short Circuit Values
The panel's nominal current and short-circuit withstand capability (Icw) should be determined considering not only the current but also the future loads of the facility. Allowing for a 20-30% growth margin is common engineering practice.
3. Protection Class (IP) and Form Factoring
The correct IP rating (dust/water protection) and appropriate form factor (Form 2b, 3b, 4b) for maintenance safety should be selected according to the installation environment.
4. Component Quality
Original components from proven brands such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, and Eaton ensure the panel's reliability throughout its lifespan.
5. Project-Specific Engineering
Instead of ready-made solutions, control panels designed according to your load list and single-line diagram provide both safety and efficiency.
6. Test Records and Documentation
Having routine tests performed and reported before shipment accelerates the commissioning process and ensures traceability during the operational period.
7. After-Sales Support
Whether the manufacturer provides maintenance, spare parts, and technical support services directly impacts the total cost of ownership.
